UNIGIS Abschlussarbeiten


Der krönende Abschluss eines UNIGIS MSc Studiums ist sicherlich die Master Thesis. Mit ihr belegen unsere MSc-AbsolventInnen, dass sie den akademischen Grad "Master of Science (Geographical Information Science & Systems)" zu Recht führen.  Im UNIGIS professional Studiengang muss keine Abschlussarbeit verfasst werden. Dennoch nehmen einige Studierende die Möglichkeit war, ein Geoinformatikprojekt durchzuführen und entsprechend zu dokumentieren.

This master thesis is about the use of mobile ground based LiDARtechnology (Light Detection and Ranging) in forest stands. There are dierent possibilities to detect information about trees from point clouds automatically. The main workow of the analysis is based on four parts. These are: generating a height model, detecting tree positions, determination of diameters and nally getting the height of a tree. In case of the height model determination there are two methods of getting heights by a two-dimensional grid. After completing the calculation of the height model both methods need an error test. To detect the tree positions a vertical point density method is used. The publicated process is independent of the distance to the measurement vehicle. Because of more detections than existing trees an additional ltering is required. Before the stem can be analysed, the detection based point selection has to be proved. The check is based on the analysis of the measurement shadow, while a measurement vehicle is driving along the trees. If there is a point on the stem surface, there can't be any other point exactly behind that tree. For the stem analysis the reduced point selection is used for a layer based circle tting in dierent heights. The resulting circles have to be proved under special conditions. In the workow there are used a four meter high range over the ground and a radius of one meter for point selection. The stem can't be analysed completely, but for calculating the diameter at breast height a linear regression is used. In case of the tree height determination there is the possibility to compare ground based mobile LiDAR data with airborne LiDAR data. The comparison of the airborne data with mobile ground based data shows that in most cases the mobile ground based data produces enough points on the canopy of trees. But there are more errors in the single tree height determination. Summarising, primary forest inventory parameters can be determined for most trees near the sensor.
