UNIGIS Abschlussarbeiten


Der krönende Abschluss eines UNIGIS MSc Studiums ist sicherlich die Master Thesis. Mit ihr belegen unsere MSc-AbsolventInnen, dass sie den akademischen Grad "Master of Science (Geographical Information Science & Systems)" zu Recht führen.  Im UNIGIS professional Studiengang muss keine Abschlussarbeit verfasst werden. Dennoch nehmen einige Studierende die Möglichkeit war, ein Geoinformatikprojekt durchzuführen und entsprechend zu dokumentieren.

Floods are natural phenomena. However, if human health is affected, these natural hazards turn into disasters. The following work deals with the flood risk assessment of an affected population using selected spatial interpolation methods within three different areas of study. Here the effects and differences of the spatial interpolation methods are identified and described in a densely populated and heavily built-up urban area, as well as in two rural areas. The main aim of this paper is to develop alternative models analogous to the Austrian preliminary flood risk assessment according to the European Flood Directive which are also applicable beyond the areas of study. This master’s thesis gives a detailed overview of both the state of flood risk research in the European context and the development of spatial interpolation methods as well as their algorithms. For the assessment of the affected people in the flood discharge areas, three disaggregation techniques, the "Simple Area Weighting Method", the "Binary Dasymetric Method" and a modified "Dasymetric Method", are formulated in separate modeling approaches and applied to the areas of study. Furthermore, the results are implemented in a risk assessment model and compared to the Austrian preliminary flood risk estimation. To evaluate the selected techniques and to validate the quality of the results, different descriptive analyses with "ground-truth" data are performed.
